NaNo Day 5: revisiting the goal

6:37 a.m.

So, I didn't get an update yesterday and I apologize. I hit 11,000+ words.
"Well that seems like a lot!" you say.
It is. It was getting very frustrating having to subtract 3567 from my total all the time.
So what I will do is just write my book and put the total up.
Then at the VERY last day, when I update the final word count, I will subtract 3567 from the total.
Makes my life easier.

Okay, anyway. I actually hit more like 13,000+ last night. I also watched Terra Nova and fooled around on the internet.

Today, I am going off to a major exam D: Let's hope I pass.

3:38 p.m.

So, the reason for the nifty title is that I want to change my word count goal for this year. i think I'm going to bring it down to 150k instead of 300k. Takes some pressure off of me but it will still get me past 50k.
Will 150k be enough to finish the book? No.
I planned on 300k not just cause I like being ridiculous, but because I planned out each part of my book to be at least 50k words per part.

So anyway, I passed my exam. None of my nano has been written today. Still have 9 hours to work on something.

12:06 a.m (next day)

Just wanted to let you know, I managed to crank out 2411 words in just a couple hours. I was very happy to hit my 15K goal before midnight! Woot!
Things are really stirring up in the books. Some new plots are presenting themselves. New characters are introduced (and I finally gave them names). The most interesting thing I've found in this session is the character development of Holly Gallowbae.
It makes sense that she would evolve because she is an important character, but the more I write her, the more she takes over and writes herself for me. She's trying to tell me something, and it is absolutley beautiful what she does.

Not to try and give away any spoilers (I doubt I can at this point) but I just wanted to talk a little bit about her before I forget the words in my head right now.

Holly comes across as a cute little thirteen year old. When we first meet her, she is wearing a hodgepodge of clothes, and is described as having these big, innocent blue eyes. She wears bells in her hair and flip flops. Sometimes she goes barefoot. In later scenes, we are introduced to a very grand seating room, with the pristine chairs covered in rainbow blankets and cushy cushions.
But then we see how ruthless and smart she is. She's like an adult trapped in a 13 year old's body. Honestly, I find that that is where my issues with writing her arise. Thankfully she ends up writing herself or I would fail.
(she scares FlyOn by the way xD)
But then we see how obsessed she is with Merce. That was not really my intention. My intention was to have this super smart, cute and little character who had a powerful weapon in her hands, and though she knows how to wield it, she doesn't really care about it. Well that changed. She orders him around. She keeps him to herself.
When I found out she was obsessed, I wondered why. I couldn't really wrap my mind around where this idea of a 13 year old being obsessed with a 17 year old came from. I mean, granted, he's her weapon, but is it power she is obsessed with?
Yes, but then I came to understand that power wasn't why she was obsessed with HIM.
It was paranoia.
During this writing session, Holly spits out this to Merce:

Holly looked into Merce’s eyes. “They are all our enemies. There is no such thing as a friend, not where we are concerned.”
“Necromancers.”
“Yes,” Holly pulled a blanket down around her shoulders, disappearing into purple fleece with golden stars, except for her head. “We are a despicable kind of thing, Merce. We are all that is dead and all that dies. We cannot have any real love or any trust, because in the end, we are all going to turn on each other.”
I love you.
Merce.
“And what of us, my lady?”
Holly smiled, her eyes looking straight through him to some distant place he could not see. “We are different, you and I. You are the only one I can trust. I am the only one you can hope to love.”

It just came out of nowhere, and I found myself scrambling to type it all down before I lost it.
And that is where I learned the truth of Holly Gallowbae.
Yes, she is drunk on power. She weilds her weapons and knows how to. But now I see she is paranoid. I mean, she had to struggle to get to the top didn't she?
Oh my god!
This book is called Through Struggle!
Struggle!
AAAAHHHH!
Sorry, a mind blowing moment D:
Ok, I will stop here for now. I need to go write more of my book.
Peace Out Minions!
