He did not believe in the afterlife, but how he wished he did now.
-Write This Down-
So, I had a convo with a person (name withheld) in a chatango box, and they were saying SAO was the BEST anime of all time and they HATED Attack On Titan. So I wrote the following.
ATTACK ON TITAN VERSUS SWORD ART ONLINE
I think it's one of the greatest because of the incredibly complex characters, the complete lack of sexism, and the complete lack of fanservice. it's refreshing to see an anime that relies solely on plot and characters to drive it and not the overt sexualization of incompetent women who are clueless without their boyfriends or the ridiculous and overused trope of tons of women fawning over one guy for literally no reason all in the name of the creator's wish fulfillment fantasy. I like how it brings interesting concepts and makes u question things, such as the question of "does humankind need the presence of monsters in order to survive?" as well as the age old but seldom explored device of "man is man's worst enemy". I like how the characters struggle to survive DESPITE the overwhelming odds, and despite being small and weak and fragile compared to the titans, they still persevere and adapt new ways to survive and fight, even against these supposedly immortal nigh invincible creations. It takes the time to present the point that all humans are important and no one's lives are meaningless or should be thrown away carelessly like they are disposable, a very interesting point presented in anime/manga such as Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and Gantz (though brotherhood dealt with it best while I believe Gantz did worse, the manga by the way, talk about a f*ed up ending)
But I digress. Those are just some of the reasons why I love Attack on Titan and believe it is one of the best anime of all time.
Granted, every show has its flaws, and while they do use the still shots in there and sometimes the objects look pasted on the scenery, it's hardly as bad as, say, Berserk. And the plot may be a little slow, but at least they decided to just slow it down a little while they waited for the other volumes of manga to come out, rather than resort to shoving filler and other stuff in.
Oh, SAO. a very interesting premise with a great pilot that fell very flat in later episodes. The main character is far too OP to be appealing. The main female starts off badass, but then turns into a whiny female who can't do anything without her boyfriend. All the other females can't do anything without kirito. The suggested wincest. The tentacle porn rape.
And so many other things.
SAO rides on a hype wave too big for itself and its overinflated head is kind of insulting to other gems of anime that get lost to obscurity because of the fan-fad.
