My Dystopia Rising character!

I was squinting and making weird faces because the cold wind and snow were eating my face off. But the whole point was really to show off the costume anyway. An actual photo shoot with poses and mebbe some blood (xD) will be taking place this week. So coolness will happen!

Regular costume for spring, summer, fall is just the shirts, armor, and this hooded half cape. There are also black combat boots (not wearing because snow)

No capes!

Winter gear! Brown leather trench coat. A fingerless glove on the left hand and a leather one on the right with buckles ^^ I am missing the left leather with buckles glove ;-; In winter I DO wear the snow boots as part of the costume because I do not want frost bitten toes. 

I wear the armor over the coat so that I can access my bags and you can see the armor.

Meanwhile, this is Romulus. She is a Sawbones (combat medic). She was found at age 7-8 being raised by wild dogs. A hermit took her in. Raised her. Taught her to read and write and things. But now she is off on her own, fighting Zed and trying to find a place where she belongs.

She is actually very proud of her roots and does not really consider herself human. So calling her a dog or references to dogs, she actually likes. Not that she can't detect malice, but if you call her dog or puppy as a nickname of sorts, she's totally fine with it.
And yes, she loves that sign. That sign is her life xD


There will be a photo shoot in the very near future and possibly costume detail photos. As time goes by, the costume will evolve, requiring more photos of course. But for now, this is Romulus.

Plans

Romulus is going to have metal spines coming from her head and this is the inspiration.

Now HOW to pull this off is the question. I have some ideas, but nothing solid so far. It will be a learning process for sure

Microwave Fo Real

So I was going through aaaaaaall my Sims images so I can FINALLY get my challenge updated, and thanks to what I call a case of Midnight Brain, this just happened...

I mean, WHY does it look like the microwave is the main focus of this photo? How could I take such a silly shot?

Life's greatest mysteries I suppose.

And then putting in a speech bubble like that gave me the idea of doing a Sims story manga style. I do have a manga creator program and all.

On another note, I love my sweet babu ^^ The one on the left. His name is Keziah Darken and he makes the cutest facial expressions. I love him ^^

He's an alien and the only survivor of his planet's destruction. The robot Iri (on the left) saved his life. And there's more to it, but I won't bore you. Just admire the cute ^^

Cthulhu's Eldritch Forge: Shoulder Cape

MORE HORRIFYING SELFIES DDDD::::

Ugh! It's truly horrifying D:::::

So here is the hooded shoulder cape for my Dystopia Rising character. Piece by piece, it's all coming together.

Next, I will either try tackling some pouches, armor, or the weapon. I saved them for last because I still have to gather materials (pouches not really, but armor and weapon YES D:) Since I will be experimenting with this plasti-dip stuff, my money is mostly going there. ;;;-;;;

So broke. Much sad. Expensive shtuff making me cry man...

Okay, it's not THAT bad, but still D:

Question is, do I spend $50 having someone ELSE make it, or do I spend $50 and make it myself...?

Dilemmas, dilemmas... If I made it, I'd be happier, but there's so little time and so much work and this is a really interesting process that worries me. I've never worked with fiberglass, dremmels, or plasti dip.

Cthulhu's Crafting Table: Plague Doctor Mask

Sorry for that. But there is my plague doctor mask. Hand sewn using thick foam paper for the framework, pure leather for the dark brown bits and red suede for the... red bits... Held together with typical thread and embroidery thread.

Took roughly 14+ hours but was well worth it. I am very pleased with the results despite the rather hashed together-ness of it. But hey, it fits the genre.

This is for Dystopia Rising, a post-apocalypse LARP that takes place in many locations across America. I was at a mini event last night at the Winter Con and got to be introduced to the setting, mechanics, etc. Which was AWESOME! But I am really excited to go to the actual game event at the end of the this month AND the newest chapter's event in my own hometown beginning of February. It's going to be busy O:
But anyway, this is just one posty-toasty about the costume. There will be mooore.
My character is named Romulus (or Rommie for short). She is a Remnant (half-breed, misfit mutated thing) and her profession is Sawbones, which are essentially combat medics. I picked it because, well, I always wanted to be a combat medic. Curse you annoyingly boss level national exam!
But I can be one in game, so hey, it's cool ^^

Yesssss I get a small melee weapon for combating the undead hordes, and since I LOVE Repo! The Genetic Opera and since I AM a medic, my small melee weapon is going to be the scalpel from the opera!!!!! Not sure EXACTLY how to pull it off (self-made or commission? oh the dilemma *stares at lack of funds*) but I'll figure it out in the end.

21 Days Left

Meh.
So my brother came home for a visit and things have been rather hectic to say the least. So much has been happening in real life that I have no idea where to even begin.
I may be moving. I have no idea where I am as far as school/career. My home life is a nightmare. Constant fighting all the time. All this... crap. >.<
But whatever. I'm not going to bore you with that.

So, a LARP is coming to my rinky-dink hometown and that means COSTUMING!
They are a nationally acclaimed LARP called Dystopia Rising which takes place far in the future. It's been 200 years since the fall of humanity and everyone lives in a Walking Dead/Mad Max/Firefly world type deal. Think ragged fashion, lots of killing, and zombies ^^

So I hit the thrift store yesterday and got pretty much all of my costuming stuff for just $13. Also: if you are into costuming, thrift stores are your friend. Go there regularly and just see what kind of stuff and deals there are. I once went there and found a mangy, old, beat up paperback of the Illiad and was like "Huh... maybe I can use this someday." Well, it actually works perfectly with my character as a kind of book that she would carry around to read for pleasure. Also some old, round glasses with green lenses that I found in 99 cent bin are going to be great for when I make my goggles ^^

So expect some costuming updates in the near future as well as photo shoots. JazzPony and I are definitely doing a photo shoot for the finished result.

Now, for writing... well, nothing got done because of real life stuff, but I think that's good. I've been able to take a step back and actually decide on how I'm going to rearrange these chapters (aka cut out two of them that have been c***-blocking me for forever). And I'm really able to look at things with a critical, plotting eye. Yay! So soon as my bro goes home, I can buckle down and start writing.
Going at things with a fresh idea is very helpful. And refreshing.

As for rp: well, things are slowly moving along. Activity has picked up. There are PEOPLE at AL D: Who woulda thunk it? I got lots of catching up to do D:
And I finally got to post Meztli!!!!!! I love my little abused elf babu! <3
