Thieves.
We've probably heard of roleplay thieves before, and I have caught a few before. Especially when it comes to characters, those are the most common.
But what I came across just a few days ago is not a character thief, it is a concept thief. The person stole my idea of Voids from my site Aisthesis.
The issue is that I have irrefutable proof, but the person will not back down. They insist they came up with it themselves.
Unfortunatley, I know for a fact that they were a member of Aisthesis not that long ago.
The site they made is about people with synesthesia. That's fine. Auras and colors and stuff is not exactly an original concept. But then they had Voids.
I told them they stole the idea and they changed the name to "Forsaken" but the 'name' is not the issue. It's the concept. I worked REALLY hard on Aisthesis, and Voids, though not a big concept in rp [rp's just been slow and crappy anyway] but they are a big site concept.
I pick and choose my battles, and this was a battle I felt I needed to pick. It is way too coincidental that you will find two sites that feature "colors of people's souls" and "Voids".
Here are screenshots comparing Aisthesis with the other site.
My description is longer, theirs is shorter. There are minor differences to each one, but they are pretty much the same:
- Voids are insane
- They eat souls to stay alive
- Their soul is a color no one else can have
- Their powers are out of control
- They are called Voids (they changed theirs to Forsaken once I brought this issue up)
If this site was made by someone who had not been a member on Aisthesis and the ideas of their Voids was just a little more different, I would probably think of it as a really bizarre coincidence, maybe even ask them if they had the site idea from seeing Aisthesis. After all, we can get inspired from other sites.
But this is not the case.
I will defend this person's site itself in saying the site IS different from Aisthesis in quite a lot of ways.
I'm trying to work some things out with the owner because honestly, I don't want to be some evil person who just harasses the shit out of them. The site itself is cool. The owner is cool. It's just that the Voids thing REALLY bothers me. It doesn't help that I had issues with the owner in the past. But anyway, we'll just see how this goes.
Am I being TOO picky here? I don't know. Maybe I am. We will see.
